LAPD detains driver following slow-speed pursuit in Mid-City

The Los Angeles Police Department pursued a driver in Mid-City for several hours Friday night.

The pursuit originally started around 10:45 p.m. Washington Boulevard and Bronson method around 10:45 p.m.

The slow-speed chase stopped and started multiple times, and video from Sky5 showed the male driver repeatedly getting out of the means, speaking with police, and then return to his means and begin driving again.

The driver seemed to be following the same route over and over, beginning at Venice Boulevard and La Brea method.

Around 12:15 a.m., Sky5 had to return home for fuel, but the driver continued to evade police, despite destruction to the car’s tires from spike strips.

An LAPD SWAT team was called to the scene and the man was ultimately taken into custody without incident around 1:15 a.m. in Mid-City near Venice Boulevard and La Brea method.

Police said the man was wanted on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, although it is unclear if the man was armed when he was taken into custody.
