Art characterize Inspired By Worldwide Game Of Jacks Opens At One World Tra…

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There’s a new art installation at One World Trade called “XO World.”

The sculpture is 12 feet high and was brought there via crate over the George Washington Bridge and then hoisted in place via crane.

It’s inspired by the worldwide game of jacks — the X is a jack made up of crossed arms, which is love in sign language.

The O is the globe.

The artist, Daniel Anderson, was born and raised in Wayne, New Jersey, and now resides and works in Montclair. He studied art in Florence, Italy and at Syracuse University.

“The idea is to provide world peace from world trade, and to embrace the pillars of equality, unity, peace and love,” Anderson said. “This piece was inspired by a lot of social tensions across the country and across the world and really bringing people together,” Anderson additional. “I think the important thing was to sort of realize how small we are, and the use of extent.”

There’s another sculpture in Oculus. It depicts four children of different races playing jacks, called “XO Play.”

“This universal game really transplanted us back into that simple childhood place of beautiful accepting co-existence,” Anderson said.

Onlookers said they were impressed by the artwork.

“It’s just interesting how they’re all playing together, as you say, without bias or anything,” Jersey City resident Amadou Diallo said.

“I can’t wait to take a picture of it and proportion it with people I know,” another person said.

Anderson said he hopes the characterize is the start of something bigger.

“Much bigger than any piece of art, you know? But a movement,” he said.

He said that would be his greatest masterpiece.
